Check out can be almost identical to check in. There are the same options with one additional consideration when deciding between the two. The two options are remote check out or personal check out. The remote option is having guests leave the key in the unit or lock box and then leaving. A personal check out is when you meet the client and take the keys from them. If I am honest, most of the time it doesn’t make a difference whether you have a remote check out or personal check out. Some guests like to have some flexibility with their check out and prefer not to have a host breathing down their neck. Some like to not have to worry about where to put the keys and like to give them to the host.
There is really only one time that I make a point of doing a personal check out. That is when the guest has bad reviews about leaving the property a mess. I find that if a guest knows that you are coming to look they will do their best to tidy up a little bit. If they don’t ever meet you or have to face you and the mess, they are less concerned about cleaning up.
I much prefer a remote check in. It saves me tons of time by not having to coordinate a personal with either myself or my cleaning lady. I choose on a case by case basis.
